These clients wanted space to hold large gatherings. We proposed a tiered pergola with a 24' x 24' central gathering space and two lower 12' x 12' wings, one containing a seating area and the other containing an outdoor kitchen. The pergola has motorized louvers that can be closed so the space can be enjoyed in the rain, an important consideration for these clients. A new stone fireplace acts as a focal point at the end of the pergola. The fireplace and new river birch trees partially enclose the space, allowing views into the rest of the yard but creating a feeling of being in an outdoor room. A low deck provides an additional gathering space, a space to enjoy the sun, and a platform to enjoy the new hot tub tucked around the corner.
