After developing a concept plan for these clients in Hyattsville, Maryland under the umbrella of Groundsmith Collective, I drew up details for a new deck. Their old deck was in disrepair and never used, and access was cramped between the old steps and garage. I designed a deck with tiered steps to address this access issue and create a sense of openness and flow to the rest of the yard. These deck details passed review by Prince George's County with no changes or modifications.
After installation, the clients have remarked that the steps are the perfect width for sitting and that for the first time ever, they are using the deck and sitting out back to talk. The rest of the landscape including patio and native plantings are slated for construction in Fall 2022 and beyond. The house is undergoing work as well (notably, the back door is being relocated). The garage-cabana conversion was designed by architect Ileana Schinder at https://ileanaschinder.com/
